History of Hardy-Close Funeral Home
Located just minutes South of Louisville in historic downtown Shepherdsville, Kentucky. Hardy-Close Funeral Home is a family-owned and operated company.
First established in 1929 as Hardy Funeral Home, Harold Hardy and J. B. Close became partners and established Hardy-Close Funeral Home in 1981. Harold Hardy passed away December 25, 1995 and J.B. Close passed away on June 5, 2006. They were both outstanding funeral directors and community men. They were always available with a helping hand.
Just before J.B died, he sold the funeral home in 2006, and unfortunately the service and care had fallen short to what Harold and J.B had built. In December 2014 Hardy-Close Funeral Home was purchased by Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home and immediately things began to turn around for the better. Renovations resulted in new furnishing, a new arrangement room, a new chapel and a new fleet of cars, J.B. and Harold would be proud to know the funeral home has continued to serve the people of Bullitt County and surrounding areas.
Hardy-Close Funeral Home is proudly managed by, Clayton Brunson, a Kentucky Licensed Funeral Director and Bullitt County resident. Our staff includes, Morris Proffitt, Funeral Director and Embalmer with Hardy Close Funeral Home since 1986, Christy Peek, Funeral Director, and Myra Cochran. Hardy-Close Funeral Home is a member of The International Order of the Golden Rule. They are dependable funeral directors who actually practice the Golden Rule.

Mr. Benjamin A. Underwood, age 83, of Louisville, returned to his Heavenly Father on Friday, April 22, 2022.
Mr. Underwood was a proud funeral director and embalmer for almost fifty years and fulfilled this important calling with respect and dignity to every person he came across. He was an “old school” funeral director full of purpose. His brilliant and intentional decisions can be seen in all of his locations.
